Parties are always full of fun and excitement. And as a photographer, you need to give your best to preserve those most enjoyable moments in your photos. You need to be highly observant, skilled, and creative for that. Also, you should enjoy the party, otherwise, you cannot tell the stories of party entertainment through your pictures. This article discusses 5 very important tips that you should follow to do your work well.

Here are the top 5 tips to click smashing party photos:-

Capture the disorderliness

In a lively party, people must be segregated here and there, enjoying themselves in their way. So, to capture the soul of the party in your photo you must click the groups in a disorganized fashion, instead of arranging them in a particular way, like a straight line or triangle. The latter will look more like a high school image than a party photo! If a group is sitting, click from one corner or end, rather than the center.

Click more candids:-

A party is always dynamic, be it a birthday party or a bachelorette one, but the moment you ask people to pose, their spontaneity is gone. So try to take more candid shots. But it is not easy to click a candid photo at a party, because the moment people see the camera in your hand, they become conscious and behave unnaturally. To capture a truly candid moment, click now and then. Once they get used to getting clicked, they will feel less pressured to give their best shots. Eventually, they will be oblivious of your presence and act normally. And that is the moment for you to take their candid shots.

Show the movements:-

A party photo will be dull if you do not show what the people were doing in it. After all, a party is all about activities, right? So, be observant, and click the actions of people. It may be ordinary activities like people dancing or eating, or some special moments between friends. Though it is better if you prepare and plan well before the event, you should be spontaneous enough to find unexpected, click-worthy moments and capture them in your camera.

Use props:-

They add charm to the party! Though the host arranges for these props usually, you should have them in your stock too, different for different parties. Some of the common props are funky glasses, party hats, cutouts, false mustaches, etc. They vary according to the occasion. Props work well because everyone loves to try them! So you get even the most camera-shy person also, with a mustache or quirky glasses, in front of your camera.

Take shots of individuals:-

The idea of clicking portraits at a party might seem weird, but it always works. Of course, you cannot click every individual in a party separately, just pick the most interesting ones. Do not impose any pose or expression on them, let them be themselves. These few portraits will not only make the photo album more interesting but approaching an unknown person in a group to take his/her picture separately will also enhance your social skills that are essential for you to survive in this profession. Here is an additional tip for you, try to shoot in RAW format if possible. It will give you more opportunities to rectify your mistakes if you make any.
