Silhouette means a dark shape or outline of someone or something visible in a small amount of light against a bright background.

| Early Morning

This is my story, where sometimes I skipped sleeping at night to capture these kinds of beautiful birds in the early morning. It is true that Waking up in the early morning is harder than staying awake all night. Sometimes I will be staying awake all night to witness the beauty of the skies and sun in the early hours.

These are some of the images that I took in the early hours where the sky looks good for Silhouette photography.

Eye to Eye before Fly

Waiting for the Pair

In the post-processing to make a photo look like a silhouette, increase the highlights and whites and maintain the shadows as your requirement. I used a healing tool to remove the other Bird's head.

Fly High

| Focus on Sun

Switch to Manual mode, shift focus on the sun and keep your shutter speed high and aperture points high and the ISO in an average range from 100-320 and start clicking then experiment with different shutter speed and aperture. So that you can get the Sun in a glowing shaped object and your subject will get a perfect shape that looks like a Silhouette.

(Note: Take care while using DSLR viewfinder while focusing sun that may affect the eyes so preferably not to take much time while doing this. Take care, Happy clicking)

Solar Bulb (Shutter 1/640sec, f/16.0, ISO 200)

Pillar Trees (Shutter 1/800sec, f/7.1, ISO 320)

| Light source

A large amount of light source is the key for Silhouette? Nah, not always the below image was taken in the early early morning where there is a little amount of light but the skies are so colour full that makes the normal Silhouette colourful Silhouette.

Increased the exposure value and extracted some blues in post-processing.

| Angle

Try to make some low-angle images with some wide-angle that gives a fresh look to the image. Also, try to include some dramatic clouds and leading lines.

Reflect

Believe and fly

| Hide and Seek

Play with sunlight or source light. Keep your subject in front of the sun that which gives a kind of lens flare that may give a good look to the image.

Sun Kissed

 | Split Tone

Actually, I tried to play with clouds but ended up loving the split-tone while post-processing the image. So try different things and I suggest trying some split tone in your post-processing if you are trying to make a Silhouette.

In the below image I increased some darks then sharpened and added some split tone.

Catch It

Alone

| Toy Play

These are the toys that my brother printed for me and I tried to make a scene with them. The source light is a small DIY softbox. Actually, that Van was a failed test piece and I tried to make it look like a scrapped vehicle where two persons came to buy it:- D So starts creating or playing with the things you are having.

How was the scene? :-P

Damaged Vehicle

Float

| Love

Beach, is the place where we click a number of pics and most loved place by almost everyone. The below images were shot on a Redmi mobile phone. While using a smartphone to take a Silhouette touch the Highlight (brightest) part on the screen and then see the magic that all the midtones will become dark and you will get the shape of your subject.

| Create

Try to create things in a new way and be creative. This won’t come instantly, keep clicking and take some examples and start recreating them in your way.

This image was taken when I observed something while my friend was playing with some lights on the terrace. So I requested him to stand still in front of white cloth. Behind that cloth, there was a source light 1 and there are two different coloured source lights behind us. One giving shadow to my friend and the other giving shadow to me in a shadow that looks like a shadow silhouette.

| Manipulation

One day I have seen a good silhouette looks exactly like the final image but at that time my camera was not near to me so I remembered it and came again to the same place and shot for a week but didn’t get what I have seen before. Therefore, I took these images and started manipulating them.

For the below images I Rearranged both of them and applied mask then removed the unnecessary things and merged it.

End of the Day

| Finally

Photography is not only clicking good images it means a lot more than that. I personally feel photography is like how you see a place or thing or a subject and how you want to show that thing in your point of view. It is all based on your own style. So, keep clicking and start showing your view.
