Latest Photography Trends of 2022 That Are Still In Play

Did you know photography and fashion are alike? And just like fashion, popular trends influence photography and art each year. These trends leave a major impact on the selling of photos and what clients ask for during sessions. Understanding what’s popular and implementing these trends in your work can further enhance your photography even more. Candid Imagery:

So what is a candid image? Although it might sound like a stupid question but it is not as simple as it may sound. In simple words, a candid photo is a photo that is not planned. There is no such posing, just let things play naturally and the let the shutter button do the rest. But taking candid photo is not just snapping a shot when someone is not expecting it. Candid photos require some strategic positioning along with the right gear and fair bit of planning among other things. It’s like documenting something happening instead of directing the subject to do something you want.

The best example being “Candid Wedding Photography” where a photographer is hired to take candid shots throughout the day of whatever is happening.

Masked Up:

Since 2020 happened, we don’t get to see people the way we once did. Nowadays, while capturing people for Street Photography, we get to see everyone wearing masks. So how can we photographers embrace the new look? It’s clear that the photos shows a certain timeline of events but how can we relate it with the aesthetics? Having a massive demand for fresh publicity and stock shots with masked people in them, it has become a trend after the pandemic and for websites and blogs to look fresh, people need to be wearing masks.

Outdoor Photography with Rustic Backgrounds:

Since the Pandemic, the popularity of outdoor photos and potraits has drastically increased and hence, use of rustic background will continue to dominate in 2022 as well. Outdoor portraits and landscape photos inspire people to get outdoors and be active. Photographers who focus on creating stock imagery, photos with rustic background still remain popular and in trend. Using objects from nature and focusing on creating an organic, natural feel will stand out.

Self Portraits:

Among all the other trends, self portraits are the most common yet, they attract the attention of the viewers the most as well. Self portraits doesn’t mean just a selfie, Although selfies can also be described as such however, there is a clear difference between the two. Self portraits are carefully composed, which is meant to create a lasting impression of yourself whereas  selfies are taken quickly with a smartphone camera and deleted if unsatisfactory. Self portraits comes handy if you want to build a good photography portfolio. So it’s no surprise if the most popular trend in 2022 is the classic self portrait.

So concluding this, 2022 is sure to challenge us in ways we least expect. But there is always light at the end of the tunnel. As an art form, photography has the power to surpass these difficulties, even through a global pandemic and social distancing. Photographers are still out there creating inspirational work.
